Computacenter to return about 100 mln stg to shareholders

British IT services provider Computacenter Plc said it would return about 100 million pounds to shareholders after the sale of its disposal and recycling subsidiary to a unit of U.S.-based Arrow Electronics Inc. Computacenter said R.D. Trading Ltd's sale for 56 million pounds in cash to Arrow Electronics UK Holding would allow it to concentrate on IT services.

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp said on Thursday it took a 68.6 billion yen charge in the April-December period as a slump in oil prices was hurting profits at its pipe affiliate in Brazil. Japan's biggest steelmaker, which also supplies steel pipes to oil and gas companies globally, expects the drop in oil to have a negative impact on its earnings for the next business year starting in April, an executive said.

Huawei targets 100 mln smartphones shipped in 2015

(Telecompaper) Huawei announced that it sold 138 million consumer devices in 2014, an increase of 7.8 percent on the previous year. Smartphone shipments rose 45 percent to 75 million, and the company said it targets 100 million units in 2015. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, said the company's strategy of focusing on mid-range and high-end devices was paying off with higher sales and market share and increased brand awareness. Mid-tier and high-end phones contributed 18 percent of shipments last year. The company's second brand Honor accounted for 20 million units shipped in 2014. Huawei also benefited from expansion of its distribution channels in 2014. Open channels, including e-commerce, accounted for 41 percent of consumer revenue, and Huawei also had 630 of its own branded shops at year-end.

British shoe chain Office nears $450 mln London listing - sources

British shoe chain Office is pressing ahead with an initial public offering that could value the private equity-backed company at around 300 million pounds , sources familiar with the plan said. Office has selected JPMorgan Chase & Co and Jefferies Group to lead its London listing in the coming months, the sources said.

Telecom Argentina announces ARS 210 mln fibre rollout

(Telecompaper) Argentine telecoms operator Telecom Argentina has announced that it will be investing around ARS 210 million in the deployment of a new fibre optic backbone network based on DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. The company said the upgrade will be carried out by its provider Huawei and will eventually result in a tenfold increase to the current carrying capacity, substantially improving overall user experience and reliability, allowing customers throughout Argentina to connect at speeds of up to 100 Gbps. The operator said the first phase of the deployment between the cities of Buenos Aires, Rosario and Codoba will be finalised by the end of February, with a second phase seeing the new broadband network extended to the north and south of the country, including coastal areas and the mountainous Cuyo region.
