Monsanto Earnings Fall 34 Percent on Lower Corn Seed Sales

Monsanto said Wednesday that its earnings fell 34 percent in its first fiscal quarter as South American farmers cut back on planting corn, reducing demand for the company's biotech-enhanced seeds. U.S. farmers harvested record crops of soybeans and corn last year, sending prices on those food staples to their lowest levels in years.

MO Corn Looking For Scholarship Applications

The Missouri Corn Association is now accepting applications again for students looking to attend College for the agriculture industry. Hillary Black with MO Corn says it doesn't matter if you're planning to go big with the industry or stay at your family's Lake area Farm, just fill out the application to see if you qualify Black says the applications can be found on their website but you must submit them no later than February 6th Black says they will release who the seven recipients will be no later than April 15th.

China approves Syngenta's GMO corn trait

Syngenta on Dec. 22 said it has received the safety certificate from China's regulatory authorities for Syngenta's Agrisure Viptera trait , a bioengineered/genetically modified corn trait that is the subject of several lawsuits, including those filed by Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland Co. China, through the safety certificate, formally granted import approval for Viptera.
