The last existing McDonnell-Douglas MD-11 aircraft - owned by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines - landed at Sea-Tac Airport on the foggy morning of Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, then departed for its final flight on Monday, Jan. 12. The airplane stopped to refuel on its way to being dismantled at the Mohave Air & Space Port in Mohave, California.

Airport spokesman Perry Cooper told KCPQ it was an airline decision and other flights landed normally. United Airlines said two of its flights were diverted to nearby Boeing Field in Seattle: Flight 371 from Chicago and Flight 407 from Denver.

The fight between Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines for supremacy at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is going to really heat up, if a report that Delta wants to triple the number of gates it has at the airport is true. Bloomberg reports that Delta wants to increase the number of its Sea-Tac gates from 11 to 30 in the long term, according to CEO Richard Anderson , in a recorded message to employees last week.

Flight delayed, person detained at Sea-Tac

The Port of Seattle says a Southwest Airlines flight to Denver was delayed just before takeoff following an unspecified security incident involving a passenger. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesman Peter McGraw said he could not give details of the incident Thursday because of an ongoing investigation, but he said the aircraft was never in danger.
