UPC launches subscription VoD service MyPrime

(Telecompaper) UPC Netherlands has launched its own subscription video-on-demand service, called MyPrime. The service offers initially around 1,000 films and 1,000 episodes of TV services. It will be included as standard in all new Power and Extra Power triple-play subscriptions from 01 April. Customers subscribed to Power or Extra Power with a Horizon box since September 2013 will also get free access to the service. Other customers can order MyPrime for EUR 6.50 per month for unlimited access to the catalogue. UPC already offered a VoD service, and the new 'all-you-can-eat' subscription is aimed at competing with new entrants on the market, such as Netflix and Videoland. The cable operator said it will make MyPrime also available on computers and iOS devices soon for viewing in-home.

Vodafone launches FTTH service in Spain from EUR 54/mth

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Spain has officially launched its FTTH service throughout Spain at prices starting from EUR 54 per month. The 100 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload service will be available from 01 April in 800,000 households in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Valencia and Zaragoza, subsequently expanding to Cordoba, Alicante, Valladolid, Vigo, Alcorcon, Badalona and Hospitalet de Llobregat. The convergent fibre and mobile bundles range from Smart S, which comes with 200 minutes in mobile calls and 600 MB in mobile data for EUR 54 per month (including line rental and VAT), to Red XL, which comes with unlimited mobile calls and 4 GB in mobile data for EUR 90 per month. All bundles include 100 Mbps fibre broadband, unlimited fixed line calls and 50 minutes of fixed to mobile calls per month.

Disney launches digital movie service with Apple

(Telecompaper) Walt Disney Studios has unveiled its cloud-based digital movie service, Disney Movies Anywhere. This new app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and web enables consumers to discover, purchase, manage and watch movies from Disney, Pixar and Marvel at home and on the go. iTunes is the first distributor for Disney Movies Anywhere, offering a library of more than 400 digital titles. For a limited time, Disney Movies Anywhere users who activate and connect their Disney Movies Anywhere account to their iTunes account will receive a free digital copy of Disney Pixar's animated movie "The Incredibles". Consumers also have the ability to earn Disney Movie Rewards points for their digital purchases through Disney Movies Anywhere. Disney Movies Anywhere's functionality is built on Disney's proprietary digital rights locker, KeyChest. The app is available free from the App Store or through the Disney Movies Anywhere website.
