Too-Insidery 'Razzle' Sadly Doesn't Dazzle
2015-10-04 23:49:25| Real Estate - Topix.net
New York Post theater columnist Michael Riedel proffers anecdote after juicy backstage anecdote in Razzle Dazzle, which is just what you'd expect from Broadway's most venomous observer. Oddly, though, he doesn't bother proffering them until roughly halfway through the book, which, in the terms of the business he covers, is rather like saving your best character-establishing ballad 'til after intermission.
Humanity sniffs its first comet: Sadly, it stinks of rotten eggs, cat pee, and stale beer
2014-10-24 16:44:48| Extremetech
It turns out that comet 67P, the comet that is currently being stalked by the ESA's Rosetta spacecraft, stinks. If you just so happened to be in whiff range of the comet, you would be treated to a fantastic "perfume" (the ESA's words, not mine) that smells like a combination of rotten eggs and horse urine, with a soupçon of stale alcohol and suffocating formaldehyde thrown in for good measure. In the words of the ESA, 'If you could smell the comet, you would probably wish that you hadnt.'
HP announces split into two companies, but sadly they wont be called H and P
2014-10-06 13:47:15| Extremetech
HP, after years of will-they-won't-they deliberation, has officially announced that it will be split into two separate companies: HP Inc, which will focus on PCs and printers, and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, which will take over the servers, storage, and other enterprisey aspects of HP. Current CEO of HP Meg Whitman will become the CEO of HP Enterprise; HP's head of printers and PCs, Dion Weisler, will become HP Inc's new CEO.
LHC confirms weve definitely discovered the Higgs boson, and (sadly) it behaves exactly as the Standard Model predicts
2014-06-23 14:16:34| Extremetech
Some two years after a Higgs boson was discovered at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, a new study confirms that the newly discovered particle is definitely the Higgs boson, and it behaves exactly as the Standard Model of particle physics predicts. On the one hand, this is obviously a huge win for science -- but on the other, there will be many scientists who are disappointed that, yet again, the Standard Model has held up to another round of immense scrutiny. If you were hoping for the Higgs boson to be the weird particle that led us towards the weird and wonderful nether regions of science beyond the Standard Model -- supersymmetry, dark matter, dark energy -- then sadly this is not the particle you were looking for.

2014-04-14 22:37:12| Semiconductors - Topix.net
The Coolpix S810c isn't Nikon's only new product announcement. The company also pulled the wraps off its latest Nikon 1 Compact System Camera, the J4, which it says has the "world's fastest continuous shooting with AF tracking."
