ResponsibilitiesDuties Provision of compliance verification analysis directly to mission customers In support of missions, perform runs with DRAMA, Scarab and Snapshot and document the results Provide a methodology for the verification of protected zone clearance and onground casualty aspects for missions operating on HEOs and orbits around Lagrange Points Establish a space object environment index concept based on fast cloud propagation algorithms. Expand the approach for longer time spans and all LEO altitude bands Contributions on space environment evolution studies involving DISCOS and other databases Provide the above services during CDF sessions Provide Training on OPSGR software and processes to internal and external trainees also in training sessions not organised by ESA Provide routine operation of ESAs conjunction event prediction system for internal and external customers in a 247 shift scheme up to 7 weeks per year Detailed analysis and consultancy in the case of a highrisk conjunction event in liaison with the Flight Control Teams, external customers and Flight Dynamics Contribute to the maintenance of ESAs conjunction event prediction system and documentation Contribute to the evolution and upgrade of ESAs DISCOS database system Contribute to the ESAs reentry forecasting process Standby for project support in the areas of Cleanspace and SSA Support to the interfacing with external entities, such as JSpOC for the analysis of conjunction events Resent and promote ESA achievements, recent research and work performed at the space debris office at international conferences once per year, and support related public relation or outreach activities QualificationsExperience Completed university degree in mathematics, physics, engineering or equivalent with high grades Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Essential Skills A high degree of independence Understand the way the CDF, IADC and SSA program works Negotiation skills Coordination of Systems and Reference Frames and Orbital Mechanics Space Debris Matters observation, modelling, mitigation, risk assessment Orbit determination aspects Space surveillance techniques and principles Software engineering The PCLinux and PCWindows environment, network services and protocols Webbased database frontends Shell scripting languages, Python, Fortran, C, Matlab Public Relations and Media Interviews Versioning systems and configuration management Database systems, in particular the use of SQL Basic understanding of the hardware PCs, RAID, back up mechanisms Ensuring a seamless operation of the software systems in routine processes, retrieval of the necessary data Desirable Skills Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarityexperience with Space Debris engineering tasks, including user experience for DISCOS and DRAMA Version control systems git Issue trackers redmine. About The Role We now have an exceptional opportunity for a talented Business Development Manager within BID to ensure the continued growth and success of the Harwell Space Cluster at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. The Harwell Space Cluster is a pillar of the rapidly growing Space sector in the UK and a key element of the UK strategy to increase its share of the rapidly expanding world space market to 40bn per annum by 2030. The strength of Harwell in Space is underpinned by the presence of key players at the campus ESAs European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications ECSAT STFCs longestablished RAL Space the Satellite Applications Catapult and the ESA Business Incubator Centre managed by STFC. Leading global space technology companies such as Airbus DS, Lockheed Martin, Thales Alenia Space and Elecnor Deimos, have established significant operations at Harwell. Overall, the Space Cluster at Harwell has grown from just 3 space related organisations 2010, to more than 75 currently, employing around 750 people. About one third of these represent foreign direct investment into the UK. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving the strategic and operational development of the Space Cluster, working closely with the Space Cluster inward investment team building on the synergies between space hardware and software companies upstream and those who offer spaceenabled applications and services downstream, to create a vibrant and growing cluster that encompasses the entirety of the space economy value chain developing and executing a strategy for attracting international companies into the Cluster, articulating an offer which is attractive to space and spaceenabled companies throughout the world, working closely with UK International Trade Investment and other partners in both government and private sector working to exploit the crossdisciplinary activities capabilities at the Harwell Campus for the benefit of the space community and others developing links between Harwell and other regional clusters around the UK, including the SciTech Campus at Daresbury and Edinburgh building links with the broad range of multidisciplinary activities in Oxfordshire that can potentially engage with the space sector and support the role of Oxfordshire in increasing the global competitiveness of the UK in High Tech business as a whole working with the STFC Harwell Campus Business Development Director, to manage the overall implementation of Campus strategic partnerships, programmes and events.
