The Philippines' most diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp is in talks to sell its unlisted banking unit soon and is eyeing an overseas oil and gas acquisition, as it seeks to build a stronger portfolio after walking away from a two-year airline investment, its president said on Wednesday. San Miguel, which embarked on an aggressive expansion drive starting in 2008 that saw it add power, mining, telecoms, oil refining and infrastructure to its stable of food and beverage businesses, is actively pursuing an offshore oil and gas deal, but is not in a hurry to seal an acquisition, Ramon Ang said.

Microsoft has sent out the official press invites for an event on September 30, where we are almost certain that Windows 9 (codenamed Threshold) will be unveiled. The Windows 9 Technical Preview should be handed out to event attendees, and should also be available online on September 30 or very soon after.

Decision on trains expected soon

City and railroad officials expect a decision by next month on a plan to increase the number of trains passing through Columbus and at higher speeds. Louisville & Indiana Railroad and CSX Transportation want to start a $70 million to $90 million project converting L&I's existing jointed steel rails, which run from Louisville north to Indianapolis, to continuous welded ones along the entire stretch.
