BNSF Slows Oil Trains Ahead of Peers

BNSF Railway Co., the largest hauler of crude by rail, moved ahead of U.S. peers in the push for safety by reducing oil-carrying train speeds beyond an agreement last year between regulators and the railroads. BNSF's oil trains will go 35 miles per hour in areas with at least 100,000 residents, a 30% reduction in speed in some cases, the company said March 30. Union Pacific Corp., the largest U.S. railroad by revenue, said it will study BNSF's actions, while CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern Corp., the two largest railroads in the eastern U.S., said they aren't taking similar steps.

Biogen's Alzheimer's drug slows mental decline in early study

An experimental drug from Biogen Idec Inc became the first Alzheimer's treatment to significantly slow cognitive decline and reduce what is believed to be brain-destroying plaque in patients with early and mild forms of the disease, according to a small study likely to reignite hopes of a treatment. Alzheimer's affects 15 million people worldwide, a number that is expected to grow to 75 million by 2030 without effective treatments, likely costing billions of dollars year.
China's auto sales growth slows in February to 6.4 per cent but SUV sales jump

China's auto sales growth decelerated in February while strong demand for Chinese-made SUVs helped to offset weakness in sales of domestic sedans. An industry group, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said Tuesday that sales in the world's biggest auto market rose 6.4 per cent to 1.4 million vehicles.
