Yesterday it was screenshots -- and today we have a glorious video of the new Windows 9 Start menu. The video shows in much greater detail how the new Start menu will intertwine the old Windows 7-era Start menu with aspects of Windows 8's Metro interface. Putting aside for a moment that the Windows 9 Start menu was clearly cut from Metro cloth, I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the functionality and UI displayed in the video.

Making life easier is the whole point of both home automation and remote controls, so the group behind the ZigBee home network specification has tried to bring the two together more tightly in a new standard. On Tuesday, the ZigBee Alliance announced the ZigBee Remote Control 2.0 standard, which could become the foundation for remotes that control an entire house full of networked appliances.

Chad Schaffler, 1049 Productions' founder, will become executive producer for VIA Productions and serve as the company's head of production. Since it was founded in 2004, 1049 Productions has produced work for Hampton Inns, International Paper Co., FedEx Corp., First Tennessee Bank and Medtronic Inc. The company also produced the award-winning documentary "Memphis Heat" and is working on the upcoming documentary feature, "The Invaders."
