Belgian mobile subscriber growth slows in Q1, service revenues fall 1%

(Telecompaper) Belgian mobile operators Orange and Telenet reported a slowdown in customer growth in the first quarter, as shops closure affected sales, while market leader Proximus did better, helped by new tariff plans introduced at the start of the year. In total, Belgian mobile service revenues fell by 1.2 percent year-on-year, the latest research from Telecompaper shows.

Mobile broadband adoption ready to boom in Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa has seen steady growth in mobile broadband coverage in recent years and this trend shows no signs of slowing. Alcatel wins 2Africa subsea cable contract from Orange, Facebook, MTN, China Mobile

(Telecompaper) China Mobile International, Facebook, MTN GlobalConnect, Orange, STC, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone and WIOCC announced that they will partner to build 2Africa, a subsea cable to serve the African continent and Middle East. They announced the appointment of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to build the cable, in a fully funded project to enhance connectivity in the region.
