SoftBank to split Japan business from overseas operations, including Sprint and Alibaba stakes

Japanese telecoms conglomerate SoftBank Group Corp said it would separate its domestic business from overseas operations to better manage its mobile and broadband investments across the world. The overseas unit would include SoftBank's stakes in Sprint Corp and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd and the domestic business would include its holdings in Yahoo Japan, the company said in a statement.

(Telecompaper) The SoftBank Group has started a major company-wide reorganisation, positioning its two core businesses, namely domestic operations and global operations, as future growth drivers. According to the new strategic direction, Nikesh Arora will head the group's global operations management company and Ken Miyauchi its domestic operations management company in Japan. The two will concurrently serve as representative director, president & COO of SBG, and director of SBG respectively.

SoftBank Group Corp. surged again in Tokyo as its market value climbed by 1.2 trillion yen since announcing a share buyback, or more than double what it plans to spend purchasing the stock. The stock rose 6 percent at the close in Tokyo.
