The Position This position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt. It is fulltime and permanent and expected starting date will be January 2022. We are looking forward to meeting you! ResponsibilitiesDuties You are passionate about space flight dynamics with an appetite for sophisticated software development and looking for a meaningful opportunity to enfold your talents? Then you are on the right track! We are supporting the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre ESOC in Darmstadt. For a number of new service positions within flight dynamics division we are searching for a flight dynamics authority to complement our growing service team! You will primarily support and execute launch preparation, LEOP and operational tasks for upcoming missions like ExoMars RSP, Juice and Euclid in close collaboration with other specialists. Further services might be required for Gaia, Bepi Colombo, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO, Hera and Solar Orbiter. The available service positions cover the full variety of flight dynamics orbit determination, trajectory optimisation, command generation and attitude determination as well as test and validation. In addition, you will invent and implement improvements and additions to existing software elements for computation of the dynamical behaviour of satellites, typically on Linux workstations and mainly using the C programming language. You will install the software on the operational platforms and design, coordinate and perform the testing. Furthermore you will participate in system tests and mission simulation campaigns, contribute to space studies, and coordinate internal and external interfaces and activities across subsystems. Crucial Skills The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with the following characteristics An outstanding expertise in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, and linear algebra problems. Proficiency in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics specified in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Ability to tackle mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other specialists. Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design. Experience in scripting languages, e.g. python, shell scripting languages. Desire to extend technical skills. Aspiration to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Desirable Skills Additional desirable skills are Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Previous operational experience in Flight Dynamics or spacecraft missions in general. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration. Knowledge of Fortran 77952003 is a valuable asset. Experience in Mathematica. Position Reference 895 We are currently looking for a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer to work for our client based in Darmstadt, Germany. This position will allow you to have a broad variety of responsibilities, from the execution of FD operations and the support to FD systems evolution to the participation to Change or Anomaly Review Boards. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Flight Dynamics operations execution for the flying missions this covers the execution of FD operations, the analysis of the operational FD performances, the maintenance of the FD operations, the contribution to the evolution of the operational FD systems and the operational validation of new versions of the FD systems. Flight Dynamics operations preparation for the future missions this covers the contribution to the development of the satellite and the GS, the preparation and validation of the relevant FD operations, the execution of related mission analysis and the participation to the LEOP, SIOV and commissioning operations up to transition to routine. Conjunction Analysis operations and operation preparations this covers the execution of conjunction analysis operations, the maintenance of the needed SW, the monitoring of the data quality and the preparation for future missions. Precise Orbit Determination operations and operation preparation this covers the contribution to the operational POD operations and to the maintenance of related SW, the monitoring of the quality of the received input data, the maintenance of offline POD capabilities, the preparation for future missions and the participation to reprocessing activities. New programs development in the domain of Flight Dynamics Systems this covers the contribution to initial preparatory phases of a Program and also the typical phases of a software development requirement definition, design, implementation, integration and verification. Maintenance and evolution of the Flight Dynamics Systems this covers the execution of corrective and noncorrective maintenance of operational flight dynamics systems as well as reengineering activities. This includes the actual production of the technical artefacts, followup of anomalies, the execution endtoend tests or participation in the associated activities andor the review of the technical artefacts produced as part of maintenance and reengineering activities. Other tasks Participate in team meetings, formal reviews Change Review Boards CRB and Anomaly Review Boards ARB where required. Contribute and participate to dedicated technical workshops, if requested. Undertake training identified as necessary to perform better. Become familiar and remain proficient with the FD, CA and POD facilities usage, setup and configuration. Prepare and provide training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other parties including controllers, analysts and engineers. Indepth understanding of attitude commanding and monitoring techniques for threeaxis stabilised GEO satellites. Experience with the routine operations of operational systems for LEO Flight Dynamics. Indepth knowledge of orbit determination and control techniques for LEO satellites. Indepth understanding of attitude commanding and monitoring technique for LEO satellites. Relevant experience with Precise Orbit Determination operational systems and operations. Understanding of GNSS signal processing and SPP and PPP techniques. Experience with Conjunctions Analysis systems and operations. In depth understanding of Conjunctions Analysis principles and of Conjunction data messages processing. Experience with the development andor maintenance of operational systems for GEO Flight Dynamics andor for LEO Flight Dynamics. Experience in Flight Dynamics Systems development lifecycle, including requirements engineering, architectural design, implementation, verification and validation.
