It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Thermal Design Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. You will provide technical support to the CPS Thermal Architect or Spacecraft Thermal Architect when required. You will be responsible for supporting product development activities for Mechanical Platform. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include I The Thermal Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support to the CPS Thermal Architect or Spacecraft Thermal Architect when required Conducting tests to validate flight thermal installations during ambient or spacecraft thermal vacuum testing. Reviewing and analysing test results. Compiling validation reports. Supporting thermal analysis campaigns by coordinating the required resources, providing technical advice and performing the analysis when appropriate. Performing tradeoff studies and reviewing analysis results to ensure compliance with defined requirements. Presenting results and design justifications at spacecraft meetings and reviews. Supporting team meetings. Reviewing design drawings. Performing hardware inspections to ensure compliance with design standards. II The Thermal Engineer will also be responsible for supporting product development activities for Mechanical Platform Analysing requirements and conducting design tradeoffs. One major development currently ongoing is for Electric Orbit Raising. Coordinating analytical support and conducting the analysis when appropriate. Designing and documenting verification tests and coordinating the necessary resources to carry them out. Analysing, documenting and presenting test results. Supporting meetings and reviews when required. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree in Thermal Engineering, Knowledge of Thermal analysis and Propulsion systems, Experience in Spacecraft Design and Thermal Engineering, Thermal Analysis Esan. Management of a small team. Good communications skills, Good listening skills, Problem solving skills. Computer skills Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Advanced level of English. Spacecraft Operations Engineer BepiColombo power, thermal, TTC, mission planning mf The Mission BepiColombo is Europes first mission to Mercury. It consists of two individual orbiters the Mercury Planetary Orbiter MPO to map the planet, and the Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter MMO to investigate its magnetosphere. The Challenge We are looking for a skilled Spacecraft Operations Engineer to be part of the team providing spacecraft operations engineering services to the Solar and Planetary Missions Division of ESAESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, with initial assignment to the BepiColombo mission. Initially, the main areas of responsibility for this position are Spacecraft power, thermal and TTC subsystems operations engineering Preparation, validation and maintenance of the BepiColombo mission planning rules and constraints. This is a full time position, located at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, starting in January 2015. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification. Essential skills are Previous experience in spacecraft power and thermal subsystem operations Understanding of interplanetary mission operations Understanding of Flight Control Team tasks and responsibilities pre and postlaunch Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Ability to coordinate and interact with other engineers in operations and other fields Ability to work independently with little or no supervision Eagerness to acquire and maintain knowledge as necessary to achieve agreed working objectives and improve work processes. Desirable skills are Strong educational background in an engineering or science discipline Previous experience in spacecraft TTC subsystem operations Handson experience with ground systems and facilities required to support spacecraft operations Familiarity with the ESOC environment Operational experience with interplanetary missions Previous experience with mission planning processes and tools The ability to work efficiently on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. You may also be requested to take responsibility and perform activities for additional spacecraft subsystems or systems within the scope of spacecraft operations engineering. Working time is normal office hours, with the engineer providing oncall support outside normal working hours. Occasional travel within Europe may be required.
