For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Ground Station Software and MC Consultant fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department and in particular the System Engineering and Projects SEP Division is providing support to the maintenance and the evolution of operational ground segments and to the development of new programmes. In this context, support is provided to the development of the Ground Segment for MTG Meteosat Third Generation, GMES Global Monitoring for Environment Security Sentinel 3, Jason CS, EPS SG EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation, which will ensure continuity of service to the current operational programmes MSG and EPS at the end of their life. The key person shall work in the SEP Division of the TSS Department as a member of the Ground Stations team, sharing the duty according to the work load, so he will be expected to have and maintain a Systemwide view of the various Ground Stations. The key person shall support the activities of ground segment developments in the area of Software and Monitoring and Control MC related to the ground stations. In doing this, the key person shall support The Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and MC systems The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase CD of the future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and MC systems The analysis and the implementationtesting of changes, or reengineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues The testing and validation of new software and databases releases The automated operational Ground stations procedures and related databases The remote operation and the maintenance of EUMETSAT Ground Stations in the areas of Monitoring Control and SW architecture Transfer protocol for the spacecraft telemetry, telecommand and mission data The STC Lab activities by contributing to the system definition and specification of STC Lab applications in support of the different programmes and by contributing to the working practices definition and improvement Essential requirements The key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular System software engineering in an operational earth observation environment Monitoring Control software application Maintenance and Configuration Ground Stations Monitoring and Control LinuxWindows operating system TCPIP, SNMP, Serial based communications C and Java programming languages and XML Longterm maintainability analysis and integrating software into a new operating system andor across computer platforms The Key person shall be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation. Tasks This consultancy is primarily to support the development of aerosol products from instruments on the EUMETSAT Polar System series of satellites, with a particular focus on multisensor products. However evaluation and refinement of aerosol algorithms for the current MSG SEVIRI instrument is also in scope and further development and extension of algorithms for application to future satellite missions will be considered. Associated with this activity are the development of prototype software and the validation of the subsequent products, and also generation of supporting documentation such as test data descriptions, algorithm specifications and validation reports. The consultant will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team within the Remote Sensing and Products Division but will also be expected to interface with experts across EUMETSAT as required. The tasks of the key person will include development of algorithms for aerosol products from instruments on the Metop series of satellites with a particular focus on multiinstrument aerosol products, drawing on the science of current established products from hyperspectral infrared and UVVisible sounders and multichannel imagers evaluation and refinement of aerosol algorithms for the current MSG SEVIRI instrument taking into account the constraints imposed by the final goal of implementation of the products within an operational processing system development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and validation the algorithms developed generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products validation of the products produced by the prototype software code using independent data generation of associated documentation including test data descriptions, Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents ATBD, Product User Guides, Calibration and Validation Plan, Validation reports etc provision of support for implementation and validation of the products within the operational processing environment interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate provision of support for algorithm development and potentially prototype software development for future polar orbiting missions including next generation hyperspectral infrared and UVVisible sounders and multichannel imaging instruments with improved potential for deriving aerosol products Essential requirements The key person shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Heshe shall be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular for atmospheric composition, meteorology and climate monitoring. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product development including at least 2 years of aerosol product development.
