Suncor Energy plans capital spending of between $7.2 billion and $7.8 billion in 2015, with the Calgary-based integrated oil giant saying average production is expected to be between 540,000 to 585,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. "Our production guidance for next year reflects a continued trend of improved reliability and steady growth," president and CEO Steve Williams said in a statement released Tuesday after markets closed.

"The impact of low fuel prices right now is it puts more discretionary dollars in consumers' pockets," Chief Financial Officer Kurt Kuehn told Reuters at the company's Atlanta headquarters.
