Singapore Airlines offers promo fares to 50 destinations

MANILA Singapore Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will be offering promo fares to more than 50 destinations in Southeast Asia, India, and Europe. The airline said the all-in fares include economy class round-trip airfare, taxes and surcharge except Philippine travel tax.

The fee hike for base fare will go up 25 cents, from $1.50 to $1.75, according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This is Metro's first rate increase in four years, and comes in the midst of the biggest surge in rail construction in the city's history, the Los Angeles Times points out, noting that by the end of the year, five new lines will be under construction, spanning downtown Los Angeles, mid-Wilshire, Azusa, South L.A. and Santa Monica.

WestJet charges $25 bag fee for economy fares

The cost of flying is increasing for millions of Canadian passengers after WestJet Airlines announced it will start charging some economy fare customers a fee to check their first bag on flights within Canada and to the United States. The new fee, ranging between $25 and $29.50 depending on provincial taxes, will apply to all new bookings made starting Monday for travel on WestJet and its regional airline Encore as of Oct. 29. WestJet said the new charge - to be paid at check-in or up to 24 hours online before travel - is expected to affect one in five of its travellers, or some 4.4 million passengers a year.
