The FCC said the new vote also covers "robust" transparency requirements that will work for consumers and help government better oversee the conduct of broadband providers.

India Supreme Court overturns call-drop compensation

2016-05-11 14:22:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Indian Supreme Court has overturned regulations requiring telecom operators to compensate customers for dropped calls. It called the regulations announced last October by telecom regulator Trai "arbitrary, unreasonable and non-transparent", news agency PTI reports. Industry group COAI had filed an appeal on behalf of operators, including Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Reliance, challenging the Delhi High Court order that upheld the Trai decision. The regulations took effect at the start of 2016 and meant that mobile operators must credit customers INR 1 per call drop, up to a maximum INR 3 per day. The Court ordered the government to consider an alternative form of legislation to address the issue of calls drops and consumer protection.
