DOE explores wind power to stabilize electric grid.
2016-03-31 14:31:15| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
In 2015, researchers at National Wind Technology Center near NREL in Golden, CO, connected 1.5 MW wind turbine to the controllable grid interface test facility, which simulates real-time conditions of utility-scale power grid. DOE researchers are evaluating potential of wind farms to provide frequency-responsive back-up or "ancillary services" currently supplied to grid by conventional power plants. For the energy industry, this helps save time and resources while minimizing integration issues.

China wasted 20% of wind power generated in 2015
2016-03-17 10:43:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: Energy wastage on wind farms in China worsened in 2015, as plunging utilization rates kept 33.9 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) from being delivered to the grid, the energy regulator said, the equivalent of a fifth of total generated wind power. Average utilization rates last year fell 165 hours from 2014, the regulator said, calling for tougher measures to cut wastage, as China works to boost grid capacity and convince transmission firms to give priority to renewable energy. "Restrictions on...
