The developer this summer started deploying foundation components for the 20-megawatt Block Island Wind Farm, three miles off the coast of Rhode Island. Offshore wind generation has been slow to develop in the United States compared to Europe. Opponents here have objected to such developments as visual blights. read more

Today marked the official inauguration of the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind power plant: 78 Siemens wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 megawatts and a rotor diameter of 120 meters, will supply around 320,000 German households with ecofriendly electricity. Siemens is also providing service and maintenance for the turbines for an initial period of 10 years.

Firefighters work to contain a fast moving grass fire on that started on Meridian Road near Wookey Road in North Chico. The fire was reported just after 9 pm Saturday evening and burned several hundred acres jumping Highway 99 before being contained.
