Scheduler for the Technical and Scientific Support Division

RHEA is currently recruiting a Scheduler to support the Technical and Scientific Support Project Control and Resource Planning Team at our clients premises in Darmstadt, Germany.. Tasks and Activities Your primary tasks and activities may include Coordinating and tracking all planning and scheduling across the department including maintenanceevolution of ground segment systems, operational projects and developmentevolution of observational products related activities Support to the responsible Operations Planner for coordinating and maintaining operations planning and projects Planning and scheduling of the departments projects portfolio. Support to the planning of resources and the reporting on resource usageavailability Establishing a related set of schedule trackers, metrics and performance indicators allowing to manage efficiently a portfolio of projects and the allocation of resources in a matrix support environment Maintenance of the schedule documentation and update of the multiprojects planning database in coordination with the schedule responsible Documentation and analysis of schedule assumptions, modifications, deviations, risks, critical path and milestone trend evolution. Development and update of schedule indicators Ensuring that all planning and scheduling conflicts are resolved Support to and participation in schedule review meetings with relevant teams. Organise the weekly planning and scheduling meetings, provide planning for the management meetings, support the reporting reviews, actions and recommendations As relevant, providing planning support to major Programme activities including the preparations for the launch and commissioning of new satellites Ensuring all plans and schedules are distributed both internally and also to relevant external partnersentities using email, Intranet and Extranet Coordinating the evolution and update of the departmental Intranet and Extranet pages for ground segment systems and products development related activities liaising with all Divisions Preparation and production of reports monthly progress report, technical reports as necessary. Skills and Experience You must possess the following skills and experience A University degree or equivalent, preferably in a management or engineering discipline At least 5 years proven handson experience in project planning, scheduling, monitoring and control. Extensive handson experience in schedule preparation, monitoring and control, in a multiproject environment. Experience in planning and monitoring the allocated Human Resources, including planning conflict resolution. Expert level usage of Microsoft Project or similar project schedulingplanning and management tools as well as Microsoft Office Suite and in particular Word and Excel. Good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to interface efficiently with both the management and technical levels of the tasks Ability to draft concise management reports and executive level presentations in English The following skills would be highly desirable. The Operations group is responsible for the operation of the entire CERN accelerator complex, which currently consists of two Linacs, five synchrotrons and five experimental areas. In addition to the varied proton, antiproton and heavy ion experimental programs, the complex also supplies protons and heavy ions to the Large Hadron Collider LHC and the Operations Group is responsible for LHC operation. In addition to this the group is responsible for the operation of CERNs technical infrastructure. You will join The Beams department BE, responsible for the beam production, beam and accelerator physics, beam diagnostics, radiofrequency, controls and performance optimization for the entire CERN accelerator complex including the LHC. The Operations Group OP, responsible for the operation of all CERNs present and future accelerators, their associated Experimental Areas and for monitoring the overall technical infrastructure at CERN. The Proton Synchrotron Section PS, a dynamic 14strong team that runs the PS, which is at the hart of the CERN accelerator complex and which is one of the synchrotrons of the LHC injector chain. Functions As member of the PS operations team, you will Be part of the 247 shift team that runs CERNs accelerator complex. Oversee the operation of the PS accelerator and the associated Experimental Facilities on a shift basis, ensuring that scheduling and experimental requirements are met while ensuring the application of safety rules. Work closely with accelerator physicists and setup and optimize the accelerator operation and prepare or participate in tests and commission of new particle beams and machine subsystems. Outside periods of accelerator operation, assist the technical infrastructure team with the operation of CERNs technical infrastructure, if required. Outside periods of shifts, and after a training period, take responsibility for software or hardware related development, maintenance andor installation work for one or more of the accelerators in the complex, either under the supervision of an engineer within the OP group or within the framework of a specialized equipment group in the department. After a period of familiarisation and training take on supervisory duties, as required. Your main activities will consist of Monitoring the accelerator and beam production status and act promptly in case of issues arising, in view of respecting the accelerator schedule. Adjusting machine parameters in order to ensure beam characteristics for the experiments are according to the specifications, using a large range of diagnostic tools. Troubleshooting beam physics and technical accelerator related problems, using a range of powerful diagnostic tools, perform data analysis and ensure a solution will be implemented with or without the expert support from the different equipment groups. Taking initiative in the optimisation of the PS accelerator performance individually or in close collaboration with the team of accelerator physicist, by preparing and performing machine tests, measurement and accelerator studies. Qualification required Bachelor in the field of physics, computing, electronics, electricity or electromechanics, or equivalent. Experience and competencies The experience required for this post is Initial work experience in a technical or scientific environment. Demonstrated experience in the field of physics, computing, electronics, electricity or electromechanics. The following would be an advantage Knowledge and experience in the field of software engineering in a modern development language environment e.g. JAVA.
