Ubuntu's Saucy Salamander is a Slick but Spiritless Upgrade

2013-11-07 14:00:00| TechNewsWorld

Ubuntu's latest desktop OS release, Ubuntu 13.10, is more of a plain-Jane release than its "Saucy Salamander" nickname might otherwise suggest. Canonical Declares Victory on Ubuntu's No. 1 Bug

2013-06-03 14:00:00| TechNewsWorld

"We have both competition and good representation for open source in personal computing," said Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth.

After all the bold moves Canonical has made regarding Ubuntu in the past few years, it's not exactly any secret that a significant portion of the Linux community remains unconvinced as to the wisdom of its chosen path. Indeed, it was just a few weeks ago that the project decided to launch its very own package format and installer, resulting in more than a few raised eyebrows among FOSS fans.

Ubuntu's Merry Mobile Machinations

2013-01-07 14:00:00| TechNewsWorld

The Linux community may not exactly be known for its glitzy launch events, but last week saw one the likes of which has rarely -- if ever -- been seen in these parts before. Splashier even than the blogosphere's New Year's Eve festivities, most agreed, the Ubuntu for phones announcement on Wednesday might well have been a Cupertino production, so loud were the trumpets and fanfare.
