This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The incumbent will report to the Head of the EGSE and Ground Systems Section. The Sections core activity consists in providing support to ESA programmes in the area of Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE, the development of simulation and modelling infrastructure, including verification test benches for functional verification, software verification and validation facilities, EGSE procurement and ground facilities software in general. The Section is also the focal point for the EGSE reference facilities and for managing the Simulation and Software Laboratory. The duties of this post will include providing technical expertise to ESA projects within the domain of ground support systems, including the development and procurement of EGSE systems, simulation and modelling infrastructure and software validation facilities participating in the evaluation of industrial proposals and in project reviews technical monitoring of industrial activities and development contracts, including verifying industrial outputs, reviews and acceptance providing technical expertise support to the European Ground System Common Core EGSCC development contract supporting the deployment of the European Ground System Common Core EGSCC into the new generation of EGSE and mission control systems used in ESA projects, in particular NEOSAT, Electra and the next generation of launchers participating in the definition and execution of the research programmes in the area of competence of the Section, in particular for EGSE systems, software verification and validation facilities, methods and tools for modelling, simulation and testing contributing to standardisation activities in the domain of ground support systems, e.g. CCSDS, ECSS, etc. contributing to the diffusion of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. The postholder may also be called upon to support other activities within the domain of competence. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in computer science andor in electrical engineering or similar, together with experience in ground support systems for functional verification e.g. EGSE system, SCOEs, software verification facilities. Extensive knowledge of modern software engineering and practical experience of implementing complex systems is required. Knowledge of spacecraft systems and space systems engineering would be an advantage. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment as well as being able to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
