Calves traded mostly $3-$8 per cwt higher this weekinstances of $10 higherand yearlings sold mostly steady to $3 higher, according to the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). Depending on the region, buyers were after cattle for both graze-out winter wheat pasture and summer grass. Overall, demand is especially strong for calves and stocker cattle weighing 500-700 pounds, with the most demand for long-time weaned calves and light yearlings. Economic outlook improves for cattle feeders

Declining premiums of feeder cattle to fed cattle promise to boost cattle feeding returns say analysts with the Livestock marketing Information Center (LMIC). Using recent prices for steers weighing 700-800 pounds, LMIC estimates breakeven prices for steer marketed in the coming months to be less than $130 per cwt, the least since October of 2014. read more
