Telefonica to roll out Movistar Series channel in Latin America

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has announced plans to launch its Movistar Series channel throughout Latin America this year, part of its ambitious project to compete with Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime via its Movistar+ original content division. In a statement, the Spanish company said Movistar Series will premiere 12 original productions throughout 2018, as well as Spanish-speaking content produced by third parties in at least 12 Latin American countries as well as Spain. The series will be available to more than 3 million pay-TV homes throughout the region, with a potential additional footprint of over 110 million Movistar mobile clients also having access.

Telefonica, Huawei conduct first 5G-V2X vehicle technology test in Madrid

(Telecompaper) Telefonica and Huawei have claimed another industry first with the successful completion of a proof of concept (PoC) for 5G-based vehicle-to-anything communication networks (known as 5G-V2X) at their 5G Joint Innovation Lab in Madrid. The test was based on the latest 3GPP New Radio (NR) Standard specification available since December 2017.

Gayo confirmed as head of Telefonica Spain in management shake-up

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has announced the appointment of Emilio Gayo as the new head of its Spanish unit (Telefonica Espana), confirming earlier reports. Gayo, previously in charge of the marketing and commercial segment in Spain, will replace company veteran Luis Miguel Gilperez, who has been in charge of Telefonica's domestic unit since 2011 and played a leading role in the introduction of the Movistar Fusion convergent offer back in 2013. The bundled package revolutionised the market and had grown to 4.38 million subscribers by the end of Q3 2017.
