Microsoft's SkyDrive becomes OneDrive after trademark dispute

Microsoft has chosen OneDrive as the new name for its SkyDrive cloud storage service, which it had agreed to rebaptize after losing a trademark dispute last year with British broadcast TV and broadband provider BSkyB. After losing the case in a U.K. court, Microsoft reached an agreement with BSkyB in July that gave it a period of time to choose a new name for SkyDrive.

Syrian Electronic Army hacks Microsoft's Office Blogs site

After hijacking several of Microsoft's Twitter accounts and compromising its official blog over the past two weeks, the Syrian Electronic Army hacked into the Microsoft Office Blogs site Monday. The SEA (Syrian Electronic Army) posted a screenshot on Twitter of the Microsoft Office Blogs site with a rogue article titled "Hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army." The article has since been removed from the site, but is still visible in Google's cache.

HP sticks thumb in Microsoft's eye, discounts Windows 7 PCs

Hewlett-Packard this week launched a new online promotion that discounts several consumer PCs by $150 when equipped with Windows 7, saying the four-year-old OS is "back by popular demand." "The reality is that there are a lot of people who still want Windows 7," said Bob O'Donnell, chief analyst at Technalysis Research, in a Monday interview. "This is a twist, though, and may appeal to those who said, 'I do want a new PC, but I thought I couldn't get Windows 7.'"
