Background EUMETSAT operates a growing fleet of Earth Observation satellites in Low Earth and geostationary orbits currently comprising 7 EUMETSAT Meteosat Second Generation and Metop satellites, and 2 Copernicus Sentinel3 satellites. In parallel, EUMETSAT is working towards the launch of one next generation satellite each year in the period 20202025, beginning with JasonCSSentinel6 A and continuing with Meteosat Third Generation and Metop Second Generation satellites. Reporting to the Head of the Flight Operations FLO Division, the Mission Control Systems Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, supervision and execution of mission control systems operations in support of spacecraft operations, working in close coordination with teams performing the operations of other systems. Heshe also supports operations preparation for recurrent spacecraft and the introduction of next generation satellite systems. What youll be doing Manage the Mission Control Systems Team of the Flight Operations Division Supervise and coordinate operations of mission control chains providing essential satellite monitoring and control capabilities across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT, including Copernicus satellite systems Maintain operations procedures and system databases for operational mission control chains Conduct operations of mission control chains composed of monitoring and control systems, TTC ground stations and related communication links, including Execution of routine and special operations Mitigation and resolution of contingencies, including provision of oncall support Management of relevant external interfaces Management of contracted industrial support, including Operations Analyst and Controller Service services Evaluation and trend analysis to monitor the operational performance and behaviour of mission control systems and chains Support routine processes for operations coordination and reporting, planning and scheduling of activities, quality assurance and anomaly handling, and configuration management Implement arrangements with the teams of the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS providing expert engineering support for the maintenance of mission control related systems, based on Service Level Agreements Support the definition of requirements, the design, development and testing of mission control chains for next generation satellite systems, as well as major evolutions of existing mission control systems Participate in systemlevel operations preparation, launch and commissioning activities for next generation satellite systems and recurrent satellites, in support to the EUMETSAT teams of the Programme Preparation and Development Department PRD responsible for the development, launch and inorbit commissioning of these systems Organise and support the training of operations team personnel in the operations of mission control chains Support the Head of the Flight Operations Division, in all management matters involving mission control chains. Summary An exciting opportunity for an experienced Control Engineer to join the Telespazio VEGA UK team, working on site at ESTEC, supporting AOCS development and maintenance. Objective To provide support to the AOCS and Pointing Systems section through definition and implementation of AOCS for Earth Observation, Telecom, Navigation satellites and for Astronomy Observatories, across a number of projects including Sentinel, Earth Care, MTG, Alphasat, Small GEO, Galileo, GAIA, Solar Orbiter. Responsibilities Duties The successful candidate will be expected to Participate in project reviews SRR, PDR CDR. Carry out Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS design, analyses and simulations control loops design and modelling, FDIR, independent simulator setup, functional verification and performance budgets. Review of AOCS software implementation. Selection and procurement support for sensors and actuators Support AIVAIT test benches, review of test plans and test results. Provide operations support review of Operations Manual, rehearsal and LEOP and inorbit analysis. Conceptualise, initiate and supervise corresponding enabling AOCS technology RD High Accuracy Pointing, Generic AOCS Architecture Building Blocks, Innovative AOCS FDIR Solutions including prototyping and tools development. Develop sensors and inertial actuators technology APS, Star Trackers, sun sensors, Earth sensors, magnetometers, gyros, accelerometers, magnetotorquers, reaction wheels, CMGs. Develop and use the Control Hardware Laboratory e.g. sensor characterisation and testing. Maintain, develop and setup AOCS simulation tools. Participate in the elaboration and promotion of ECSS standards in the E60 domain Qualifications Experience Masters, or equivalent, in Control and Aerospace engineering, or similar related discipline Previous experience in AOCS engineering within European industry Essential Skills AOCS Design, Validation and Testing, as well as AOCS hardware procurement. Exposure to full cycle of AOCS development from PhaseA to Phase E is an asset. HW knowledge sensors, computer, actuators. AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level. Proven knowledge of commercial modelbased design tools MATLAB. The successful candidate will support any or all the following activities Support to the ESTEC GNC Section for the development of space transportation GNC systems. This comprises, flight vehicles ranging from Expandable Launchers, Reusable Launch Vehicles RLVs as well as Ascenders and Landers for Exploration applications. Address the multidisciplinaryphysics and highfidelity End to End vehicle dynamics modelling with implementation in 6DoF simulation environments Matlab, Simulink, DSpace. The candidate must have a track record in the design of classical space transportation GNC systems including Thrust Vector ControlAttitude Control Systems. Mastering of advanced multivariable GNC design and verification approaches for the stability and performance robustness analysis is a prerequisite. Daily support and independent expert analyses shall be provided to the development of ongoing and future ascender and descender systems including microlaunchers, reentry systems, reusable VTVL Systems in atmospheric and orbital flight on current ESA Simulation and Verification Platforms. Specific GNC design tasks shall include detailed flight mechanics, environment, aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, actuator and sensor system modelling. The post holder shall perform system sizing, requirements capture, architecture conception, advanced GNC design as well as performance and SW validation analyses. Support shall be given to the conception of new Mission Vehicle and Flight Management MVMS Systems towards incremental Flight Autonomy. The MVMS architectures shall include Advanced Monitoring and Reconfiguration Systems FDIR as well as stateof the art Flight SW based on Robust Adaptable Control RealTime Optimised Guidance Strategies. New efficient validation Advanced Analysis Tools must be mastered to drastically improve the gaps and shortcomings of current validation approaches. The post holder shall provide regular Technical Reporting of the GNC Design and Analysis as well as contribute in the preparation and execution of project and technology studies reviews. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will bring a PhD or M.Sc. in Control and Aerospace engineering from a recognised Institute of secondary studies or equivalent and minimum of 4 years experience in the space sector. Additionally, the person requires Proven experience in the design, tuning, analysis and simulation of GNC systems in different project phases. Proven knowledge of modern control design methods, commercial modelbased design tools MATLAB. Experience with rapidprototyping of hardwareintheloop systems. Ability to interface with industry.
