Global warming lethal to baby lizards: Nests become heat traps

PhysOrg: The expected impact of climate change on North American lizards is much worse than first thought. A team of biologists led by Arizona State University investigators has discovered that lizard embryos die when subjected to a temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit even for a few minutes. The researchers also discovered a bias in previous studies, which ignored early life stages such as embryos. Embryonic lizards are immobile and cannot seek shade or cool off when their surrounding soil becomes hot....

Global Warming Nurtures Infectious Disease Outbreaks

AllGov: Add another unforeseen problem to the list of consequences of global warmingthe spread of diseases. The bacteria that cause cholera, rarely seen in the United States, love warm weather. Usually winter weather halts the spread of the disease, but with longer, warmer summers and poor sanitation brought on by extreme weather events, its possible thousands more every year will contract cholera, according to Marlene Cimons of ClimateProgress. I would put cholera highest on my list to worry about...

Majority of Britons worried about global warming, poll finds

Press Association: The majority of British people are worried about global warming, a poll has found, with flooding and sea level rise topping the list of fears for what rising temperatures will bring. A survey of more than 2,000 people found more than half (57%) were worried about global warming, with one in seven of those quizzed, or 14%, very worried about the issue. Almost two thirds (64%) thought global warming was already a problem, and seven out of 10 (70%) agreed it was going to be a problem in 20 years...

Fact or Fiction?: Natural Gas Reduce Global Warming Pollution

2015-08-04 01:43:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Scientific American: A drop in U.S. carbon dioxide pollution in recent years stems from burning natural gas instead of coal. Or does it? Given that the U.S. bid to combat climate change through actions like the Clean Power Plan relies on more burning of gas than coal in power plants, that answer is both politically and scientifically important. Compared with coal, burning natural gas results in roughly half the amount of CO2 per megawatt-hour of electricity. Yet even half the CO2, when spread over hundreds of power...

Before time of global warming, data shows spring sprung later

2015-07-30 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

InsideClimate: If actions do indeed speak louder than words, plants and animals are telling us in no uncertain terms that human-caused climate change is changing their lives--with potentially dire consequences for the ecosystem. According to one of the largest troves of ecological data from the past, living organisms are already responding to the rise in temperatures from global warming. By digitizing more than 11,000 records from the 19th century that chronicled the flowering of plants and trees, the springtime...
