Bennett Sandlin, executive director of Texas Municipal League, addressed state lawmakers late Monday, urging them to allow cities to regulate oil and gas industry drilling. Testimony on a bill to limit city jurisdiction over the Texas oil and gas industry continued Tuesday as the Senate Natural Resources & Economic Development Committee took up Senate Bill 1165.

The company had filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice Feb. 24 that was received at the state LWC office March 2. The notice indicated that Houston-based Parker intended to lay off between 50 and 297 employees between March 4-18. The latter date passed without action, but 35 layoffs were made the next day.

Interior Department requires disclosure of chemicals for oil, gas drilling on public lands

The Obama administration said Friday it is requiring companies that drill for oil and natural gas on federal lands to disclose chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing operations. A rule to take effect in June also updates requirements for well construction and disposal of water and other fluids used in fracking, a drilling method that has prompted an ongoing boom in natural gas production.
