Storage Network Engineer

We are looking for a Computer Software engineer with several years of experience in the field of distributed storage and computing systems, Storage Area Networks SAN and backuparchive technologies to support our customer EUMETSAT in the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The Engineer should start the position on the 1st of November 2013 Storage Network Engineer J2715 Responsibilities Duties As a member of a Storage Network Infrastructure team, the Engineer shall provide support to the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The duties include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage and computing services. The Engineer shall perform the following tasks Monitoring of the facility services, computing, storage, backup and archive performance, investigation into HW and SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions Ensuring that in case of HW or SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures Liaison with the external providers of HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between computing and storage subsystems Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of associated technical documentation Provision of support to design future evolution of the facility to accommodate the requirements of current and future programs, generation and maintenance of associated documentation Provision of standbyoncall support Provision of support, as required, to critical operations. In the performance of the activities the Key person shall always apply the relevant change management control and maintenance procedures. Qualifications Experience University degree in the domain of engineering, or equivalent. Several years of experience in administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage and computing systems. Essential Skills The Engineer shall have an expert knowledge and an extensive work experience in the UNIX operating system, Storage Area Networks SAN, BackupArchive technologies and should have experience, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following system and software environments UNIX operating systems i.e Solaris, AIX, Linux, virtualization technologies, system administration Highly available environments under SUN, VMware cluster or equivalent Implementation of backup and recovery solutions Symantec NetBackup or equivalent VTL and Data Deduplication technologies High end, automated, tape library systems StorageTek SL8500 series with ACSLS software SAN topology design and implementation, managing Brocade or equivalent switches, EMC or equivalent middle and enterprise storage arrays serving many different types of storage client platform via a virtual layer VPLEX or equivalent Implementation of archive solutions using Hierarchical Storage Management HSM system SAMFS or equivalent SystemService Monitoring using Nagios framework Generation and maintenance of technical documentation in English The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Tasks The Storage Network Infrastructure SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all programs maintained by the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, unified under a management framework.
