A New Face for Old Heat Transfer Rolls
2013-08-21 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Orange, Mass. – Inside a heat transfer roll, corrosion and other suspended matter can eventually clog inner fluid flow channels and impede proper cooling or heating. Many of these heat transfer rolls can be refurbished by PFE Rolls through a reshelling process to achieve like-new performance. While reshelling can include machining inner and outer roll surfaces, inner spiral replacement, shaft repair and balancing, the cost can be a third that of a new roll. Still, reshelling is not for ...This story is related to the following:Thermal and Heating EquipmentServicesRolls | Heat Transfer Instrumentation | Heat Transfer Fluids | Heating or Cooling Rolls |

Hand-Held Electrostatic Voltmeter negates charge transfer.
2013-08-20 14:29:33| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Intended for ESD-sensitive applications, Model 821HH enables high-accuracy voltage measurement, in contacting or non-contacting mode, with virtually zero charge transfer. Device is capable of real-time, non-disruptive, non-loading, site-specific voltage measurement and can be used to measure both conductive and insulative surfaces. Measurement range is 0 to ±2 kVdc or peak AC, response speed is <500 µs for 1 kV step, and voltage display accuracy is better than 1% FS. Struthers-Dunn Reintroduces Flash Transfer Relay with GOLD Serrated Contacts
2013-08-19 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
With the energy saving design of an all LED intersection, the total current draw for the entire intersection can be under 5 Amps. Frequently the FTR switches less than 1 Ampere. An intermediate design of an FTR using a “serrated” gold diffused contact has been offered by Struthers-Dunn, to help prevent low current problems during the transition to LEDs.

The proven silver/palladium alloy contacts known for long-life when switching high current “Tungsten” ...This story is related to the following:Controls and ControllersSearch for suppliers of: Current Sensing Relays | Lighting Control Relays |

Back to the future: Microsoft develops acoustic P2P file transfer tech for smartphones
2013-08-15 20:05:43| Extremetech
In a bold, technologically retrograde move that will strike fear into anyone who surfed the internet before the advent of DSL and cable, Microsoft Research has devised an acoustic file transfer protocol for mobile devices. That's acoustic, as in, the same way that your 56k modem connected to the internet via a stream of modulated bleeps and screeches. This technique, called peer-to-peer acoustic NFC, allows any two mobile devices to transfer files as long as they have a speaker and a microphone -- no special hardware, such as NFC, WiFi, or Bluetooth is required.
