Calling for stricter safety regulations in the trucking industry, the family of a Santa Cruz man killed in a big-rig crash on Highway 17 filed a lawsuit this week against three trucking companies, a construction firm and a truck owner involved in the crash. In a tearful news conference at the family's home on Dufour Street in Santa Cruz on Wednesday morning, the parents of 25-year-old Daniel McGuire said they hoped something positive would come out of their son's death.
