US new-home sales hit June slump

Fewer Americans bought new homes in June, a possible sign that the real estate market might not be as hot as it appeared at the start of summer. The Commerce Department said Friday that new-home sales slumped 6.8 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 482,000.

Chesapeake halts dividend as energy slump squeezes cash flow

Chesapeake Energy halted its quarterly dividend for the first time in 14 years as slumping energy prices crimped cash flow for the second-largest U.S. natural gas producer. Ending the 35-cent annual payout beginning with the third- quarter payment will save $240 million a year, Oklahoma City- based Chesapeake said Tuesday in a statement.
