Senior Software Engineer Mission Operations Center 2 year Contract Ref SES0332 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category IT Software Development Position Staff Context SES Techcom Services has currently a need for resources to support the design, development, testing and delivery of the EDRS Mission Operation Center MOC in Redu Belgium About EDRS The objectives of the European Data Relay Satellite System EDRS initiative is to improve the quality of the data service and thereby enhance the operational reliability and independence of European and Canadian space infrastructures. The improvement in the quality of the data service is to be provided by a space based data relay system supporting data links between user spacecraft in low earth orbit LEO and user ground stations. In particular, the services offered by earth observation missions will be upgraded considerably since the EDRS will enable such missions to offer near real time access to data for example for disaster relief and security applications without being subject to geographical or weather constraints. Today space based data relay services are not offered on a commercial basis and are available only for institutional use to a few nations in the world. The EDRS will make space based data relay services available to European and Canadian space projects. The EDRS will use optical and Kaband technology to provide the data links to the user spacecraft. Responsibilities The Senior Software Engineer EDRS MOC is directly responsible for the specification, design, implementation, validation and verification of the software systems and networking facilities required for the Mission Operations Centre. Specify, design, evaluate, implement and test software and networking infrastructure required to support satellite control centers and satellite and hybrid communication systems Procure equipment, software and services necessary to build the infrastructure at customer premises and manage shipment Supervise specification, design, and development work necessary for project implementation, including project control functions Design and implement softwarecomputer infrastructure andor modifications to comply with specific customer requirements such as their standards, interfaces and software and hardware technologies Interface customer and collect requirements for the setup of budgets, procurements, installation management and the operational handover of systems Coordinate with other functions Project Control, Legal, Finance for the transparent and effective realization of assigned project Travel internationally and meet directly with customers and vendors worldwide when required Addionnally Define future technology requirements in close cooperation with sales and other SES group companies Followup technology development in the area of expertise and make recommendations regarding evolution of TechCom services and products Provide technical recommendations and expertise in the area of networking, communication protocols and network management Provide support to Sales department for the presales activities presales engineering Experience Qualifications University degree or equivalent technical college with pertinent professional experience in telecommunications andor computer science Minimum of 7 years experience in engineering of large, reliable, distributed client server applications and communication protocols.
