The company, in the midst of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, seems to be hinting that its memorable store at 183 East Houston Street didn't make the cut because of its performance, but a statement we received from American Apparel yesterday says otherwise: "This store closure is a next step in implementing our previously announced turnaround plan , which includes underperforming locations and investing in new stores in promising areas."
