A foodborne illness linked to some Blue Bell ice cream products might have been a contributing factor in the deaths of three hospital patients in Kansas, health officials said Saturday. Officials have not released the names of the five patients at Via Christi St. Francis hospital in Wichita, Kansas, who developed listeriosis in after eating products from one production line at the Blue Bell creamery in Brenham, Texas.

Five weeks after General Motors closed its victim-settlement fund to new applicants, administrator Kenneth Feinberg has tallied up 13 more deaths and 30 more injuries related to ignition-switch defects the automaker admitted to hiding for 13 years. So far, the settlement fund-estimated to pay out between $400 million and $600 million-has now counted 64 deaths and 108 injuries from 4343 claims submitted since August.

Bus routes eyed to reduce pedestrian deaths: MTA Chief

The MTA is considering a review of bus routes to make the streets safer for pedestrians under the city's Vision Zero program, Chairman Tom Prendergast said Wednesday. One possibility would be to revise routes to reduce the number of left and right turns Metropolitan Transportation Authority buses have to make, Prendergast said during a question-and-answer session with reporters after the authority's monthly board meeting.

Former PPG Industries senior vice president Robert J. Dellinger has admitted killing a pregnant woman, her fiance and their fetus in a deliberate head-on collision that he called a suicide attempt.
