(Telecompaper) In the LTE auction in Poland that has been going on since February, the bidders have offered a total of PLN 9.2 billion for frequency licences in the bands 800 MHz and 2600 MHz, reports Rpkom.pl citing regulator UKE. Compared with similar auctions in Europe, the result is about six times higher, and several times higher than the expected state budget income from the auction. Five blocks in the band 800 MHz reached a total bid amount of PLN 8.6 billion (PLN 1.72 billion per block). The other fourteen blocks in the 2600 MHz band reached a total amount of PLN 611 million.

The divorce between United States Steel Corp. and U.S. Steel Canada Inc. will likely lead to new bids for the Canadian unit, sources familiar with the restructuring say. U.S. Steel Canada has been effectively cut loose from its parent company under a transition agreement announced last week that includes a promise that the Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel will not be a bidder if there is a second effort to sell the Canadian unit.
