With efficiency-optimized design that eliminates need for pressure reducing valve, condensate pump, and safety relief valve, vertical flooded steam heat exchanger solution consists of vertical heat exchanger with small control valve on condensate return line. This enables flooding of heat exchanger for extraction of latent heat as well as sensible heat impossible with horizontal heat exchanger systems. Also, design eliminates need for vacuum breaker; oxygen is never injected in return lines.

Manufactured as part of multi-vessel contract for nylon process installation, ASME Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger features 22 in. OD vessel and 81.5 in. straight tube length. Vessel and U-tube material is SA-240-316L and SA-249-316L. Nominal rating is to 230 psi @ 600°F and full vacuum with external jacket design of 86 psi @ 600°F. Tube-to-tubesheet joints are welded and expanded per TEMA tolerances and liquid penetrant tested (PT).
