Delta Air Lines reported 19,101 mishandled baggage reports for the month of September - up significantly from 13,691 reports in September 2013. According to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 77 percent of the Memphis International Airport's arrivals were on time for the month of September.

Hawaiian Airlines had the highest rate of on-time arrivals among U.S. airlines in September at 90.8 percent, according to the latest Air Travel Consumer Report released by the U.S. Department of Transportation . For the month of September, Alaska Airlines ranked second with 87.2 percent of arrivals on-time; Delta Air Lines ranked fourth with 85.6 percent of arrivals on-time; American Airlines , which includes U.S. Airways , ranked sixth with 82.7 percent of arrivals on-time; and United Airlines at ninth with 80.7 percent of arrivals on-time.

Southwest Airlines now besting United and American in on-time performance

Despite some two weeks of air traffic control hell in October in Chicago, where Dallas-based Southwest has its largest hub at Midway Airport , the low-fare carrier still managed to almost match its September on-time arrival performance, according to stats released today by FlightView, an airline and airport performance data provider. According to FlightView, Southwest notched a 77.3 percent on-time arrival performance in October, down just slightly from the 77.9 percent recorded in September, when air traffic control issues began to be a factor in the Chicago area.

Hawaiian Airlines reported the most on-time flight arrivals among domestic carriers in August 2014, with 94 percent of flights on schedule, according to the latest Air Travel Consumer Report released by the U.S. Department of Transportation . On time means flights are no more than 15 minutes after a scheduled arrival or departure time, and cancelled and diverted flights are not considered on time.

Even though chaos erupted at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports in the wake of a fire at a regional air traffic control facility on Sept. 26, it turns out the ugly situation didn't negatively impact the systemwide on-time performance in September for the three largest airlines serving Chicago.
