Google Sidewalk Labs wants to improve city life for all

(Telecompaper) Google has established Sidewalk Labs, a new unit that it said will focus on "improving city life for everyone." CEO Larry Page said the company will develop and incubate urban technologies to address issues such as cost of living, efficient transportation and energy usage. On the Google+ social network, Page said that the company will be led by Dan Doctoroff, former CEO of Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor of Economic Development and Rebuilding for the City of New York. Page added that investment will be relatively modest but that the company will be working for the long term, as does its Calico initiative.
