BlackBerry's BBM comes to Windows Phone in beta form ahead of widespread launch

In response to "an incredible number of requests," Blackberry will soon bring its BBM messaging app to Windows Phone. For now, the app is in a filled-up closed beta, though you can register to join the waiting list. Blackberry says it will open the app to everyone in "the coming weeks."

Microsoft's Windows OS could play a crucial rule in returning worldwide PC shipments to modest growth next year after multiple years of decline, Gartner said on Monday. PC shipments could reach around 317 million in 2015, increasing from 308 million units expected to ship this year, the research firm said in a study. Shipments this year are expected to decline by 2.9 percent compared to 2013, which is lower than previous yearly declines.

Windows XP hold-outs pay attention. If you run the Java runtime on XP, it looks as if the current version is about as good as it gets. The next version, 7u65 and 8u11, due to ship in the middle of July, will not support or run on XP. Oracle hasn't announced this so much as sneaked out the information on its Java support site.
