Sony upgrades Xperia 1 flagship smartphone with pro photography functions

(Telecompaper) Sony has presented its new flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 II, and the mid-range Sony Xperia 10 II. The successors to the Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 launched in 2019 come with improved screens and cameras as well as 5G support. They will launch this spring, for EUR 1,199 for Xperia 1 and EUR 369 for the Xperia 10.

LG unveils 2020 K smartphone series

(Telecompaper) LG Electronics announced the 2020 K series lineup, including the LG K61, K51S and K41S smartphones. Inheriting advanced features first introduced in LG's premium smartphones, these phones come with upgraded cameras, multimedia functions and improved all-around performance, the company said in a press release. LG's 2020 K series will be available starting in Q2 in the Americas followed by key selected markets in Europe and Asia.

Smartphone production to fall 12% to 275 mln units in Q1 on Coronavirus - study

(Telecompaper) The virus will affect production in different ways: production will be lower due to the labour-intensive nature of the industry, to China's delay in work resumption and population movement control, and to a reduction in the public's willingness to buy. Another factor will be delays to the delivery of key components.

MediaTek reports higher Q4, lowers 5G smartphone shipment guidance on Coronavirus

(Telecompaper) MediaTek said revenues for the fourth quarter reached TWD 64.708 billion, down 3.7 percent sequentially on lower seasonal demand for consumer electronics, but up 6.3 percent year-on-year on higher demand for smartphones and some other devices. The gross margin improved to 42.5 percent, up by 0.4 percentage point from the previous quarter and by 3.6 percentage points from the year before.
