Motorola launches wide-screen One Vision smartphone

(Telecompaper) Motorola has presented its new Moto One Vision smartphone, which comes with a large 6.3-inch screen with 21:9, cinema-like aspect ratio. The phone priced at EUR 300 launches first in Brazil and Mexico and will roll out in the rest of Latin America and Europe this month, before launching in selected other countries in Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

OnePlus unveils new Pro model to target high-end smartphone market

(Telecompaper) Worldwide smartphone shipments plunged another 6.6 percent in the first quarter of 2019, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of decline, according to preliminary data from IDC. The fall to 310.8 million units is a clear sign that 2019 will be another down year for worldwide smartphone shipments, predicted the researcher, with Huawei and Vivo the only two vendors currently bucking market trends after posting strong year on year rises of 50.3 percent and 24.0 percent respectively.

Samsung Q1 profits fall on weak memory, display results, lower smartphone sales

(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics confirmed a sharp fall in profit in the first quarter, hurt by the drop in memory chip prices, losses at its display business and lower margins in smartphones after a revamp of its lower-end models. Samsung said it expects memory and display demand to improve from the second half of the year, but the smartphone and TV business will remain "challenging" due to the intense competition and uncertain economic environment.
