Sony updates flagship smartphone with OLED screen, AI features

(Telecompaper) Sony has introduced at IFA in Berlin its new flagship smartphone, the XZ3. Coming barely six months after the XZ2, the new device adds an OLED screen and a range of AI functions. It will also be among the first to launch with the new Android 9 Pie software. Available from the end of September, the phone's recommended retail price is EUR 799.

Gartner confirms Huawei passes Apple to become 2nd biggest smartphone maker

(Telecompaper) Huawei surpassed Apple in the second quarter to become the second-largest global smartphone vendor for the first time, Gartner confirmed. Overall, sales of smartphones to end users grew 2 percent in the second quarter of 2018 to reach 374 million units, the market researcher said.

LG updates G7 smartphone range with Android One, Fit models

(Telecompaper) LG Electronics has announced that it will expand its G7 series of smartphones with the release of the LG G7 One and the LG G7 Fit smartphones at the IFA trade show in Berlin. To be offered at "exceptional price points" according to the company, the LG G7 One offers similar features to the G7 ThinQ released in May, while running Android One, the 'pure' version of Google's OS, while the G7 Fit has slightly lower specifications, bridging the gap between mid-range and flagship models.

Sprint partners LG for first 5G smartphone

India smartphone market grows 20% in Q2 as Xiaomi retains leadership

(Telecompaper) Smartphone companies shipped a total of 33.5 million units to India during the second quarter, resulting in healthy 20 percent year-over-year growth, according to data from IDC. The market researcher said growth was supported by a large number of online exclusive launches and strong shipments by offline vendors on the back of promotional activities and channel schemes.
