About This position is for a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer to join our team at ESOC in Darmstadt. The role will focus mainly on GNC monitoring and control and orbit determination, and control for Science missions. The main tasks will cover the domains of orbit determination trajectory optimisation, GNC command generation and GNC telemetry monitoring. The position is primarily assigned to a particular service within the Science Missions but with the possibility of supporting other service andor missions. The work will primarily be related to EXOMARS RSP, Juice and Euclid, but assistance may also be requested related to GAIA, Bepi Colombo, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO Hera. Tasks The general tasks of the team cover the following areas Command Generation Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of task related command parameters Generation of task related reports Mission Planning Support Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of mission planning related products, such as schedules and planning input Attitude and TM monitoring Retrieval of TM of the onboard GNC systems Decoding and analysis of GNC TM Sensor and actuator calibration Generation of ausiliary data for mission exploitation Trajectory optimisation Trajectory definition Analysis and implementation of trajectory targets and constraints Trajectory optimisation and determination of optimum manoeuvre strategies. Orbit determination Preprocessing of meassurements Orbit determination Generation of orbital products Orbit geometry analysis Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer Flight Dynamics System Development Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests Participation in tests Setup procedures Flight Dynamics SubSystem configuration Coordination of internal and external interfaces and activities across subsystems. Qualifications University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parametersquaternions, Eulerangles ... is an asset. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for Equations solving, Integration of differential equations, Function approximation and interpolation, Optimisation, Linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including Kinematics and dynamics of point masses, Dynamics of rigid bodies, Dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, Conservation laws in mechanics, Gravitational forces and field, Orbit dynamics, keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. lagrangian formulation is a valuable asset. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software, which applies the above solutions, using C as main programming language. Knowledge of UnixLinux, scripting languages and Fortran 77952003 is a valuable an asset. Willing to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. As our Engineer, Flight Dynamics, you will be responsible for The orbital control, colocation, orbital events prediction, momentum management and propellant lifetime estimation of the SES GEO and MEO satellites The development of the orbital and satellite control software Shadowing of transfer orbit mission operations in the Flight Dynamics section Providing expertise for any flight dynamics related activity to other stakeholders Primary responsibilities Be responsible for a safe and efficient colocation andor stationkeeping of the SES GEO and MEO satellites, while minimizing propellant usage to maximize satellite lifetime, satisfying satellite constraints and avoiding risk of collision between SES colocated satellites. Manage large unexpected orbit perturbations or maneuver execution performance issues to maintain the satellite in the stationkeeping window and to avoid risk of collision. Design develop and test software in the orbital and satellite control fields to carry out and support all the above. Perform conjunction analysis, interface with external organization e.g. US Air Force, satellite operators and plan corrective maneuvers in case of close approach with another satellite or debris. Determine and maximize satellite propellant lifetime of SES satellites, including propellant tank management Provide orbit and related events predictions information to internal sections, external organization e.g. Teleport and customers Review and challenge the mission design for satellite launches, shadow the implementation and lead the maneuver planning during the inorbit test phase Design and implement satellite relocations to meet SES business needs, while ensuring safe separation with other satellites, minimizing propellant consumption and coping with satellite and interference constraints Collaborate with Satellite Engineering to investigate satellite anomalies related to attitude control and propulsion systems Providing on call support when needed Qualifications Experience Masters degree in physics, mathematics or engineering.
