Terma delivers systems and products from a broad product range, for example star trackers at the equipment level, power conditioning at the subsystem level, complete instruments and satellites at the system level. The Challenge The CDF Concurrent Design Facility is ESAs stateoftheart facility equipped with a network of computers, multimedia devices and software tools, which allows a team of experts from several disciplines to apply the concurrent engineering method to the design of future space missions.The CDF System and Software Engineer position covers both tasks of Space Systems Engineering support and Software Engineering for the implementation and maintenance of the models and the tools typically required by CDF environment and activities. These 2 roles are retained synergetic with each other. In particular the CDF System and Software Engineer is in charge of supporting the deployment and exploitation and continuous evolution of the Open Concurrent Design Tool OCDT and its various applications, including assessment and conceptual design studies of future missions, Instrument Design Activity IDA, launcher vehicles, payload accommodation, System of systems and other future applications. All these applications will require a specific model template that needs to be instantiated and maintained. Roles and Responsibilities 1. Direct participation in CDF studies and activities, covering the role of System Engineer andor System of Systems Architect, associated to functions of Software Engineer see below, thus coordinating design and architecture sessions with specialists of other engineering disciplines. 2. Support the evolution of the CDF infrastructure through prototyping and evaluation of CDF model architecture related applications, 3. Support the evolution of the CDF infrastructure through the development of new CDF Models. This includes assistance to the various specialists in creating new discipline Workbooks, tools and databases and participating in joint design sessions. 4. Support the enhancement of the CDF infrastructure through the design, development, implementation and maintenance of specific databases, incl. testing and reviewing the fully integrated CDF database model template. 5. Provide support to the evolution of the Open Concurrent Design Tool OCDT product in particular in terms of deploying, exploiting and maintaining such a product for internal and external Space Community utilisation 6. Provide System Engineering functional support to ESA projects, which encompasses interface with the project team and the industrial team, participation in progress meetings and reviews, as requested by project work, and providing appropriate feedback about achieved progress and results. 7. Provide support to the Directorates activities as requested within the field of competence. Professional Qualifications We expect the candidate to demonstrate a sound knowledge of an array of technologies with a focus being on experience in mission critical environments Experience of the following is expected Expert knowledge of SC system and mission design. Intermediate knowledge of ITSW development, preferably AeroSpace related, incl. system design modelling tools and Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design. Knowledge of System of Systems SoS architecting and related tools such as System Architect, Focal Point, etc. and frameworks e.g. MODAF, TOGAF. System Engineer with experience in Software Engineering practices and standardisation. Relevant practical experience in space system engineering, mission design, feasibility studies and related modelling tools. Tasks The purpose of the EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service EARS is to provide polar satellite data from the EUMETSAT Metop and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA satellites with a timeliness suited to the needs of European operational short range regional numerical weather prediction models. The geographical coverage of EARS is primarily over datasparse sea areas around Europe. EARS comprises six separate polar satellite instrument data services these are the existing EARSATOVS, EARSAVHRR, Pilot EARSASCAT and the EARSIASI services and the EARSNWC and EARSNPP services currently under preparation.
