Alcatel unveils Idol 4S Windows smartphone with VR goggles

(Telecompaper) Alcatel has unveiled a new Windows 10 version of its Idol 4S smartphone, which will launch first with T-Mobile US in a week. Microsoft said the smartphone targets professionals, gamers and general tech enthusiasts, offering productivity features such as Continuum to use the phone like a PC when connected to a screen as well as Windows Hello for added security with the fingerprint reader. The Idol 4S also comes with virtual reality goggles that attach to the phone for playing 3D games or watching 360-degree videos. The phone features a 5.5-inch Full HD Amoled display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU , 21MP main camera with Sony IMX230 sensor and 8MP front camera with 84-degree wide angle lens, a 3000mAh battery, USB-C charging with Quick Charge, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM (with MicroSD support up to 128GB) and dual speakers. It will sell for USD 469.99.

ZTE unveils premium Axon 7 smartphone, VR headset

(Telecompaper) ZTE Has unveiled a new affordable high-end smartphone, the Axon 7. The device was presented in Beijing and will launch first in China. The pianist Lang Lang will serve as ambassador for the phone, which offers a number of premium audio features for music lovers. ZTE said it worked with Designworks, a unit of BMW, to develop the phone and the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. The Axon 7 also comes with a 20 megapixel back camera with OIS and advanced auto focus and a front 8 megapixel camera. The phone runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and comes with a choice of 4GB RAM plus 64GB ROM or 6GB RAM plus 128GB ROM. The Basic edition costs CNY 2,899, the Standard edition CNY 3,299 and the Premium edition CNY 4,099. ZTE is also introducing its own VR headset to complement the Axon 7.

Huawei unveils new flagship smartphone, the P9

(Telecompaper) Huawei has unveiled in London its new flagship smartphone, the P9. The company worked with Leica to develop a new camera on the smartphone, using two lens with both colour and black and white options to create a high level of detail and quality in photos, even in low light. The camera possibilities will be featured in the marketing campaign for the P9, which stars the actors Henry Cavill and Scarlett Johansson in Shangahi and Hollywood. The P9 features a 5.2-inch 1080P display and runs Huawei's new Kirin 955 2.5 GHz ARM-based processor and a 3,000 mAh battery. It will be available with a choice of 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM or 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM. A P9 Plus version will offer a bigger 5.5-inch Press Touch display and 3,400 mAh battery with quick charging. The devices will launch 16 April in Europe, China and select Middle East markets.

LG unveils Stylus 2 smartphone with DAB+ support

(Telecompaper) LG Electronics has unveiled its Stylus 2 smartphone which features the DAB+ standard for digital radio broadcasting. The LG Stylus 2 with DAB+ will initially be available in Australia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway and the UK.

Xiaomi unveils Redmi Note 3 smartphone, MiPad 2 tablet

(Telecompaper) Xiaomi has unveiled its new Redmi Note 3 smartphone and MiPad 2 tablet. The Redmi Note 3 features a full-metal body, 5.5-inch full HD screen, fingerprint sensor, MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front cameras and 4,000 mAh battery. It will sell for CNY 899 with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM and for CNY 1,099 with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM in a choice of silver, dark grey and gold finishes. The smartphone is the successor to Xiaomi's Redmi Note 2, which has sold over 6 million units to date since its launch in August. Xioami also presented the MidPad 2, which it says is 18 percent thinner and 38g lighter than its predecessor while also adding a full-metal body. The MiPad 2 features a 7.9-inch display from Sharp with 2048x1536 resolution and 336 ppi, the same as the iPad Mini 4, according to Xiaomi. It runs an Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor with 2GB RAM and comes with 8 and 5 megapixel cameras, 6190mAh battery and USB Type-C port. The tablet will be available from CNY 999 with 16 or 64 GB storage, in a choice of champagne gold or dark grey finishes.
