Tele2 4G network already covers 50-60% of country
2014-08-07 16:25:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Tele2 Netherlands' new 4G mobile network already covers some 50-60 percent of the country, suggesting the operator could be getting close to a launch of services. Telecompaper's sister company GSM Helpdesk took around 250 readings across the country and found the Tele2 network is already live in most of the largest and medium-sized cities. Tele2 announced at its latest quarterly report in July that the roll-out is progressing steadily, but has yet to give any exact coverage figures or announce a launch date. The company has said it's improving processes to accelerate the roll-out of the network. The measurements show that the network is available in not only the Randstad, but also in large parts of Zeeland, North Brabant, Limburg and Flevoland provinces and along the major A roads. Tele2 has a site-sharing agreement with T-Mobile for the 4G roll-out and is using frequencies in the 800 and 2,600 MHz bands. Thanks to the combination of high and low spectrum the operator is able to realise extensive coverage and capacity in a relatively short period of time. Telecompaper expects Tele2 to launch services in late 2014 or early 2015, becoming the country's fourth network operator. The operator is expected to have nationwide coverage immediately at launch. In addition, it still has a MVNO agreement for roaming on the 2G and 3G networks of T-Mobile.

Tele2 accelerates mobile revenue growth to 7% in Q2
2014-07-16 08:57:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Tele2 reported second-quarter sales down 1 percent from a year earlier to SEK 6.343 billion. Revenues were hurt by lower fixed-line sales and cuts to termination rates, offsetting a 7 percent increase in mobile service revenue, driven by demand for data services. Excluding exchange rate effects, revenue fell 3 percent. EBITDA was also down 1 percent, to SEK 1.466 billion, while net profit jumped to SEK 818 million from SEK 369 million. The latter was helped by a valuation gain of 363 million on a put option on its Kazakhstan operation, after the local currency was devalued and Tele2 provided additional financing. Tele2 added a net 250,000 new customers in the quarter, for a total 13.439 million at the end of June. Following the recently announced sale of its Norwegian activities, Tele2 updated its full-year guidance. The sales forecast was cut to SEK 24.8-25.2 billion from SEK 30.0 billion, impacted also by the currency devaluation in Kazakhstan and lower handset sales.
