Climate Change And Extreme Weather Linked To Low Birth Weight
2015-10-06 14:26:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ThinkProgress: The world has learned much in recent years about the harmful health effects of climate change, such as heat-related deaths, respiratory and heart problems caused by air pollution, and emotional disorders that result from the consequences of extreme weather. Now researchers have found that it poses a surprising new danger: low birth weight. In a first-of-a-kind study, scientists from the University of Utah spent two years examining the relationships between fetal development and pregnant women`s...

Tiny low power battery management IC for wearables and IoT products
2015-10-05 15:14:32| Semiconductors - Topix.net
Delivering optimal battery life while reducing power consumption, the bq25120 from Texas Instruments presents a highly integrated battery management system that claims to offer the lowest quiescent current at 700-nA with the buck converter, operating at 1.8 V. The bq25120 features a linear charger, configurable LDO, load switch, buck converter, pushbutton control and battery voltage monitor all in one. The IC supports batteries from 3.6-V to 4.65-V, and fast charge currents from 5-mA to 300-mA, allowing wearables and industrial Internet of Things applications to always be on without draining the battery.

Panasonic Develops GaN Diodes With High Current Operations And A Low Turn-On Voltage
2015-10-05 07:10:19| rfglobalnet Home Page
Panasonic Corporation recently announced that it developed gallium nitride (GaN) diodes that can not only operate at a high current that is four times greater than that tolerated by conventional silicon carbide (SiC) diodes, but also operate at low voltages by virtue of their low turn-on voltage.
