The crazy true story of how George W. Bush secretly tried to raise the gas tax
2016-07-05 11:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Grist: Remember that time the George W. Bush administration tried to sneak a new gas tax onto the books and sort of succeeded? You probably dont, because not even those fighting over this measure in Congress understood what was going on. Gas has long been touted as cleaner than coal and marketed as a "transition" fuel until the mass take-up of renewable energy becomes viable. But a growing chorus of voices from Australia and overseas is warning that any perceived benefits could easily be lost with just small leakages. Professor Peter Rayner from the University...

Reuters: Hundreds of people were briefly evacuated from their homes in the Michigan town of Melvindale on Saturday morning after a car hit a natural gas main at a DTE Energy (DTE.N) facility and caused an explosion and fire, police said. The evacuations were a precaution in case the fire affected natural gas pipelines or underground wires. No one was hurt except for the driver of the car, and residents were allowed to return home a few hours after the fire was put out, police said. Local television showed...
