NEMA’s Electroindustry Business Conditions Index for current conditions in North America fell to 41.2 in December as a larger share of panelists reported conditions deteriorated than reported they improved. December's reading represented a substantial decline from November’s reading of 58.3. Meanwhile, EBCI for future North American conditions slipped to 52.9 in December from 55.6 in November.

America's electrical and medical imaging industries commend Congress for passing a $1.1 trillion omnibus legislative package that funds the government through September 30, 2016. Bill includes 2-year deferral of 2.3% medical device excise tax, extension of the energy-efficient commercial building tax deduction through 2016, and legislation that will allow businesses to voluntarily share information about cybersecurity attacks with federal agencies and each other in secure manner.

NEMA urges CEC to revise LED bulb proposal.

NEMA called on the California Energy Commission to ensure that California consumers have access to the most efficient and cost-effective LED bulbs currently on the market. Under CEC's proposed regulation, LED bulbs would be required to meet very specific requirements for color rendering index. This proposal would compel California residents to buy more costly, less energy-efficient LED bulbs for their homes than consumers in other states, without countervailing benefit.
